Use the Speech Sound Play Plan before teaching any phonics programme, not just the Speech Sound Pics Approach, to screen for dyslexia risk by assessing phonemic awareness and phonological working memory. Letters that function as graphemes in words are known as sound pictures, that is, Speech Sound Pics, and introduced early.

Monster Mapped Readers
Phonics with Phonemies: Monster Mapped Core Code Level Readers
Code Level readers follow the Speech Sound Pics (SSP) Approach grapheme teaching order, as shown on the chant strips. Each grapheme is displayed along with its sound value, making it easier for children to move beyond the Core Code. Then they can see when letters represent different sounds, for example different Speech Sound Monsters® for /s/ in the words is, sugar, and monsters.
Mapped Words® address the underlying challenges faced by dyslexic learners. Use Phonics with Phonemies® so that the written code makes sense to all learners.
They offer the support children need, until they no longer need them.
A new, accessible way for all learners to read easily and with confidence designed by Emma Hartnell-Baker MEd SEN| Expert in Preventing the Dyslexia Paradox. Train with me at SpeedieReadies.com
We map Core Code Level Readers, extending existing decodable readers to show the graphemes and sound value, and also the One, Two, Three and Away! series. This is essential if children are at risk of dyslexia.

We can also map regular books that children want to read.
There is no need to wait until they know the code.
Mapped Words® used with Spelling Clouds® make every word accessible, so children can enjoy real books right from the start.
Start with the 36 One, Two, Three and Away! books
when they are learning at the Yellow Core Code Level.
Or don't even wait until then:-)
